Culture/Heritage: Lunch Box (도시락)

I believe in every country most of us have our own lunch box culture right? For those who love to watch Korean drama, sometimes we saw a typical lunch box set isn't it? The one that made by steel and need to put on hot stove for a while before bringing it to some where. Long time ago this lunch box set is very famous in South Korea, but these days its quite HARD to find this old lunch box version due to modernization.ㅠㅠ

Some of my Korean friends said looking at this typical lunch box set or known as Dosirak (도시락) makes them remember their childhood memories. ^^ The rectangle steel lunch box is normally available in restaurant (long time ago) however there are another version of it at home. During year of 1980 till around year 1996 dosirak had been ESSENTIAL part in Korean student life.ㅋㅋㅋ Most of mothers will wake up early in the morning to prepare dosirak for their kids to bring to school.

My mom did too when I was in primary school but we DON'T have steel type of dosirak. We just used a plastic container and normally we already KNOW what meal inside of it. Compare to Korean, most of them NOT KNOWING what their mom prepare for them everyday. They just know about it when they open it at school during recess hour! Full of surprise!!ㅋㅋㅋ Some of my friends says their mom will put it in nice shape for them ㅋㅋ. I think if my mom do my dosirak in a very cute shape I might not eating it!!ㅋㅋㅋ Too cute to gobble it!ㅋㅋㅋ

Since modernization era, dosirak is NO LONGER common for Korean student.ㅠㅠ Some of Korean youngsters NOT even knowing what Dosirak is all about!ㅠㅠ Too bad, modernization had RIP OFF one of their heritage!ㅠㅠ Late 1990, their dosirak set (at home) normally can be found in some different shape, like a tumbler, or rectangular set with few partitions and etc. However since school provides lunch set for them, NO one bring dosirak to school. Some of my Korean friends said, if a student bring dosirak at school, other students will look at him or her strangely which is in my opinion "why would they do that??"Did they become CRIMINALS because of that??

I did asked some of my Korean friends, why dosirak culture is NO LONGER been practiced?? Their answer is as school provide meals for student, most of parent were happy, as to make dosirak for their kids require some time. However from my opinion, making dosirak to kids actually STRENGTHEN the BOND between parent and their kids. Yes there are so many other ways to strengthen the bond but this also make youngsters VALUE their HERITAGE.

Living in modernization era, these days there are even electric dosirak set. This is more easier. I know that students CANNOT bring this kind of appliance at school but why not start the dosirak culture in office?? This culture NOT only SAVE money, it save TIME too!  NO need to go out for lunch ㅋㅋㅋ. If every staffs BRING their own dosirak and SHARE with each other, doesn't it CREATE more FRIENDLY environment in office??ㅋㅋㅋ Me and my office mate did, and yes so far we were MORE friendly than ever ㅋㅋㅋ but of course in SOME CASES sometimes by doing this kind of activities, we can KNOW the TRUTH COLOR of our friends.ㅋㅋㅋ

P/s: For students, if bringing dosirak to school make their LIFE hard, why not ORGANIZING like a DAY trip or a PICNIC with their friends, and everybody bring their own dosirak to somewhere and ENJOY it together?? This kind of event we normally call it as POT LUCK! Parent or older generation can explain to them about this CULTURE so that this heritage will still ALIVE even we were living in globalization era. For office workers, why not share SMILE and JOYS with cute dosirak meal at office? or who knows its can be your BEST time to SHOW OFF your cooking skill talent??! :P Be it OLD VERSION of dosirak set or ELECTRIC dosirak set, the IMPORTANT part is keeping HERITAGE/CULTURAL well and alive~

Culture/Application: Delivery Food in South Korea

We all aware that South Korea have been recognized world wide as one of the MOST fast developed nation around the world isn't it??  Many people curious about how they do it so well, how come they managed to catch up and rapidly growth!  Well I will NOT writing in ECONOMIC aspect as I'm disqualified to do soㅋㅋㅋ but lets look at a very simple topic; that we might wonder is it important??? Why does this topic significant with their growth??? O-o

Korean were known as one of the MOST workaholic workers, plus hectic working culture is absolutely NORMAL compare to other places around the world!! For office workers, most of them start working at 8:00/9:00 a.m up till 6:00 p.m. Some stay back for another few hours! Wow! I can't imagine myself in their shoes!ㅋㅋㅋ Looking at this fact, you got the answer right on how they become fast developed nation in the world!ㅋㅋ Apart from that, we know that Korean love to EAT too!ㅋㅋㅋ Since most of them workaholic how they enjoy their food during weekdays then?? Any wild guess?? O-o Bingo!! It's DELIVERY FOOD!ㅋㅋㅋ

Delivery food in KOREA is one of the best DELIVERY SYSTEM in the world!According to the report of 2014,per year this sector worth around $12 Bn!! This make them as top 3 in Delivery Food Service after US and Europe!ㅋㅋㅋ  Believe me Korean love to order food from morning until dawn!!ㅋㅋㅋ No wonder some restaurants or cafe operate almost 24 hours per day!! From heavy meals to snack, (Korean, Chinese, Japanese food, Burger, Pasta or Pizza) just name it, you can find it from DELIVERY FOOD, from various brand too!!냠 냠

I haven't got a chance to try it while I'm in Korea, due to my limitation, its extremely IMPOSSIBLE for me to find DELIVERY HALAL FOOD in South Korea!ㅠㅠ  Through my Korean friends, they said that there are some application that can be used to order DELIVERY FOOD. There are two company that compete side by side in DELIVERY FOOD APPLICATION known as Baedal Minjok (배달의민족) and Yogiyo (요기요) These application not only make its easy for them to order their favorite food, we know that it is normal for ordering food when we are at home or office isn't it?? However, these application are beyond that!!ㅋㅋㅋ  Even if you are at a park you also can order them!! ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Yogiyo been founded by Team Europe as a quasi-copycat app to the existing local player for DELIVERY FOOD. This application allows user to make direct call to the restaurant or by using in-app quick messaging service or simply just ordered through their website. Baedal Minjok also offered the same application like Yogiyo but their application is more catchy to Korean eyes!! With the obsession of  FANCY DESIGN, many Korean prefers Baedal Minjok over Yogiyo!!ㅋㅋ Yogiyo focus on experience which makes its easier even for foreigner to try their app! While Baedal Minjok put lots of effort through glossy design, plus giving full of discount possibilities through point system. Method of paying for Baedal Minjok is very flexible too!! ^^

p/s: Currently (Jan 2015) there are 150 000 stores listed in Baedal Minjok app, sorry I can't find the figure for Yogiyo though ㅠㅠ. However some says Yogiyo is more user friendly, as for English speaker you can use it without hassle even all was written in Korean.  More interested in fancy design then what are you waiting for?? Try to order using Baedal Minjok then, this application bit complicated yet thrill!ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Blue photos is Baedal Minjok while Red photos is Yogiyo.

P/s: Some Koreans said, the portion of serving is different too. For anyone who have big appetite, you can browse the menu or restaurant list using those application and call the restaurant DIRECTLY. Normally you will get big portion compare when you ordering through Delivery Food application, as restaurant owner need to pay money for those application so the size of serving been reducing too~ Be wisely about this ^^ and enjoy your food! ㅋㅋ

Dating Tips : Is it true that most KOREAN GUYS are short tempered???!! O-o

For those Korean Drama Fanatic fans, I believe we all aware that most KOREAN GUY in Korean drama been portrayed as a short tempered person isn't it?? However in reality is it true?? Did KOREAN GUY always complaint and having sort of cheeky traits?? As a person who had experienced in relationship with KOREAN GUY, I would say that its NOT true.ㅋㅋㅋ Some of you might say LOVE make me blind and ignored those traits in KOREAN GUY?? Well Ok let me give you some more examples. ㅋㅋㅋ Yes I'm once in relationships with KOREAN GUY, but I'm also having few KOREAN GUYS as a GOOD FRIENDS! ㅋㅋㅋ

While I'm in Korea, I met almost all of my Korean friends including guys.ㅋㅋㅋ Of course different person have different personality! However there is ONE particular COMMON trait in every of them!ㅋㅋ This COMMON TRAIT, I found in every of my KOREAN GUY friends!ㅋㅋ You might wonder what is it right???ㅋㅋㅋ I will tell you later.ㅋㅋㅋ Most of my Korean guy friends don't mind going shopping with me, even for few hours! ㅋㅋ They will go along with me plus help me asking what kind of this or that!ㅋㅋㅋ Lucky me! ㅋㅋㅋ

Some guys don't like to walk around so much isn't it??ㅋㅋㅋ They prefer drive instead of walking but in Korea, its normal for walking around and taking public transport rather than driving!ㅋㅋ While I'm outing with them, we walk around for few hours from one place to another! Even its tiresome they NEVER complaint or get mad at me! ㅋㅋㅋ There is a time where we go back and forth yet they DIDN'T ask why we kept walking at the same area!ㅋㅋㅋ

Did KOREAN GUY patient enough to wait for you?? Well some are very patient and some are NOT. ㅋㅋㅋ so that's I can't said its COMMON TRAIT in KOREAN GUYS.ㅋㅋ KOREAN GUY whose really taking care of their SKIN, they don't mind waiting for you! In fact when they need to get ready sometimes they even take more time than GIRLS do!!ㅋㅋㅋ Plus they NAGGING so much if a GIRL didn't care much about their BEAUTY!ㅋㅋㅋ Funny isn't it??ㅋㅋㅋ

Then what is the COMMON TRAIT between KOREAN GUYS?? O-o It's their TUMMY!!ㅋㅋㅋ Most of KOREAN GUYS that I'm hang out with, they don't mind waiting for me, walking for few hours, going out for shopping or window shopping, they are NOT SHORT TEMPERED in simple matters  as what been portrayed in KOREAN drama though.ㅋㅋ However they tend to be SHORT TEMPERED when they HUNGRY!ㅋㅋㅋ  We all know right that most KOREAN love to eat but many of them super slim or looks fit! ㅋㅋ In order to be happy while outing with KOREAN GUY make sure to eat with them first or when its time to eat, stop over and having your meal before continue your lovey dovey DATING session! ㅋㅋㅋ

P/s: If  KOREAN GUY treat you for your meal while outing together, treat them COFFEE or DESSERT later ^^ I just write this topic based on my own experience, some of you might have completely different stories! or Am I always LUCKY all the time?? ㅋㅋㅋ
